How Does Acidophilus REALLY Work?

One of the most frequent questions I hear is, “How does the Bowel Strength work if it does not contain probiotics/acidophilus?” Perhaps a single day does not go by that I am not asked this question. So, even though I thought I explained this sufficiently in my book, I am explaining it again! If I still fail to have you understand this concept, I am sorry.

So I will provide another analogy for you, in my never-ending attempt to set you on the right road. (I suspect that I will still get many questions about how the Bowel Strength can work if it has no probiotics in it, and all I can do is keep trying to “undo” your current way of thinking…)

Bowel Strength and probiotics like acidophilus work by helping the good bacteria in your bowel grow and multiply.

If you had no money, you would die (of starvation etc). Likewise, if you had no healthy bacteria in your bowel, you would die, too. If you had $4000 in the bank, you would want it to grow and multiply. To do so, you could invest this money in real estate, gold, a money market fund, a CD, etc. These are all different investment vehicles, but they all help your money grow and multiply (well, in the good ‘ole days, but you get the point). Likewise, there are many “investment vehicles” for your good bacteria, as well. One of them is probiotics. Another is grapefruit seed extract. Another is berberine (these last two are in Bowel Strength). There is not one way to help your money grow, and there is not just one way to help your good bacteria grow and multiply, either.

The vast majority of the clients that I have seen who have rebuilt the bacterial environment in their bowels have never taken acidophilus; they have done this exclusively with Bowel Strength.

Bowel Strength and probiotics like acidophilus do the same thing. You don’t need to take both products to heal your bowel!

Understanding Healing Symptoms

Symptoms can immediately “disappear” only when you are treating them with crutches. They do not immediately disappear when you are healing your bowel and body and getting to the cause of them. In the long run, they will disappear and stay gone effortlessly. (This is a far cry from the results you get when you simply treat them with crutches, which is inevitable failure, the development of new illnesses, and a shortened lifespan.)

When you successfully heal your bowel and body, you will experience a gradual reduction in the frequency and severity of your symptoms. (On the other hand, you are given instructions for using crutches in Chapter 10 of "This Works Crutches Don't," and these will immediately reduce your symptoms and improve your bowel movements, but do not confuse this with healing, and do not interpret this to mean that you have quickly healed your bowel and body.)

During the healing process, your body will release stored-up acidity from your cells and dump it into your organs of elimination. This is very positive and you will experience an improvement in your health and weight as a result. When you unplug the bottom of your pipe (organs of elimination), the acidity that was stuck in the middle and top will be released into the space that was just cleared away at the bottom. This is a wonderful thing that helps save your life, as trash at the top of your pipe is very harmful and undesirable. If your body can release it into your bowel because it is healthier, it will do so.
During this process, however, you may find that a symptom that was better returns again (albeit, temporarily). This can, understandably, be confusing, upsetting, and frustrating—if you do not understand the healing process, and the actual “benefit” of this response!

To understand what is happening, imagine that you have holes all over the roof of your house.; holes over the bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, tec. And imagine that there is a man on the roof fixing these holes. Let’s also say that there are many more holes over your bathroom than your kitchen, and even fewer over your bedroom. If this man fixes eight holes/day—over all of these rooms-- the bedroom will get fixed first (as it has the fewest holes over it.) Prior to fixing these holes, if it rained, your entire house got wet. Now, when it rains, your bedroom will not get wet (because the holes over it have been fixed), but now your living room and kitchen may become wetter, as a result of the rain not dripping into your bedroom. Now, as you keep this man on the roof, eventually the holes over the kitchen and living room will get fixed too, and when it rains, these rooms won’t get wet either.

But for a period of time, they do get wetter when it rains.

To relate this to this process, you may have a lot of stored acids in your kidneys, less in your pancreas, and even fewer in your arteries. As you eliminate acids from your body with this process, your arteries will heal first, then your liver, and your kidneys will heal last, as your body heals from the “top” down (review Chapter 3 for an understanding of this).

So if it “rains,” i.e. you eat more sugar, alcohol, or a more cleansing diet of more carbohydrates and/or less protein, at some point the un-eliminated acids will no longer affect your arteries and liver, but more of them will be handled by your kidneys. This can mean that all of a sudden, your blood pressure goes up, or you retain more water (weight) than you were.
This is not a negative experience. On the contrary, during these reactions, you are becoming healthier. This can be interpreted as negative when someone experiences the initial signs of improvement, and is mentally disappointed when the improvement does not continue uninterrupted.

It is only after all of the old accumulated acidity has been eliminated from an organ that a symptom may be gone forever. It is only once all of the holes in your roof have been fixed that your house will not get wet when it rains.

You are used to crutches, and this experience can cause you to wrongly interpret these reactions and fail to heal your body. When you take a drug to lower your blood pressure, for example, and it does just that, you would rightly be concerned if at some point your blood pressure became elevated again while taking it. The medication is treating the symptom of high blood pressure and the return of that symptom means the drug may not be working anymore and may need to be increased. Your crutch is failing you.

During this process, the re-appearance of a symptom does not mean that the process is not working. Keep taking Bowel Strength or acidophilus and bentonite, and you will “move past this” onto even better health, and fewer symptoms.
Or, if you do not like your kitchen getter wetter, make sure you have a large tarp over your roof. If you do not like these reactions, make sure your stools are well-formed, that you are taking your bentonite correctly, and that you are not eating too little protein, too much fruit, or too many carbohydrates, just yet.

Top 10 Tips for YOUR Success!

1. Do not start this program without reading my ENTIRE book, "This Works, Crutches Don't," first (or consulting with me directly). And throughout this process, re-read Chapters 6-10 many times. If you don't have the time or the desire to read, contact me for an appointment if you get lost. It is very easy to get lost, as healing your body is perhaps the most complex--and yet definitely the most rewarding and valuable!--thing you will ever do.

2. Watch my videos. Videos that visually explain the main concepts of this program are available and can be accessed through www.YouTube.com, by typing my name, Donna Pessin, into the search field.

3. Join my mailing list for more support, specials on Bowel Strength, probiotics, bentonite, and other supplements, and notifications of new videos. You can sign up through my website or by emailing me at donna@ThisWorksCrutchesDont.com and putting “Sign me up” in the subject heading.

4. Invest in your health and happiness. The time and money you spend on this program is limited and will be significantly less than the time and money you will spend, and have already spent, on crutches.

5. Expect to get lost/frustrated/confused and/or scared. This program does not simply heall your bowel and body and eliminate your symptoms, illness, addictions, and weight struggles. Bowel Strength or probiotics, and bentonite can only do this if they are used correctly. Take the time to review the information and instructions in my book so that they are.
This is a complex process, but it is more than worth it. What you do when you are faced with fears, misunderstandings, and frustrations will determine your success. Do you run away, or resolve to fight? Only the fighters will succeed.

6. Be patient. I am never concerned about the physical condition a client is in as far as my ability to help them reverse this and heal their body; this is not limiting, except in the most imminent, life-threatening cases. The limitations in healing your bowel and body are almost entirely due to your emotional state of mind. Healing requires patience, faith, forgiveness, hard work, support, and gratitude. Finding the purpose in your current situation is also very helpful.We are very lucky to have found this road.If you do not give this program at least one measly little year to show you that it works, (nothing, compared to the decades that most of you have had unhealthy bowels and bodies!, and nothing compared to the decades you will spend with short term success but inevitable failure if you follow the crutch approaches), you will never succeed in attaining a symptom-free, addiction-free, disease-free body, free of weight struggles and obsessions. Of this I am certain. In fact, I would not blame calories, stress, genetics, laziness, carbs, or even an unhealthy bowel and body as the number one cause of obesity and death in this country—I would definitely say it is due to impatience,

7. Use crutches, because while they do not heal your body, they will help give you the patience needed to heal!
Taking an aggressive amount of Bowel Strength (or probiotics, like acidophilus), and using bentonite, is a necessity for achieving a healthy, symptom-free, addiction-free, long-living and thin body. But your bowel is home to 100 trillion bacteria, and recreating this beyond-enormous environment takes time. And eliminating billions of stored acids form you body takes a long time as well. Hence, very few of you will succeed in accomplishing this feat if you do not use crutches along the way.
Those of you who do or have used the crutches I recommend in Chapter 10 of “This Works, Crutches Don’t” have found a significant and immediate reduction in headaches, aches and pains, sugar cravings, bad Pap smears, and PMS. You have seen your skin look better right away, your energy increase, your stools dramatically improve, and your weight go down. You have begun sleeping through the night. You have gotten pregnant immediately, felt great during your pregnancy, and given birth to healthy babies. Making Bentonite Work For YOU

Bentonite is unique in that it is both a crutch, as well as a healing agent. It both helps you quickly look and feel better by absorbing and eliminating acids from you bowel and blood, but it also helps to heal your body. It is both a mop to soak up the rain getting through the holes in your roof, as well as something that helps to repair those holes in the first place.

As such, there is great benefit to finding the “right amount” of bentonite to use now, as well as great value in taking it daily and benefitting from the cumulative, healing affect of this product.

Like Bowel Strength or acidophilus, you will see greater improvements in your health, weight, symptoms, addictions, and disease as you continue with this product over time.

So, if the amount of rain that hits your roof fluctuates a lot; if your diet, and the amount of stress in your life, varies, do not get discouraged by this, and your inability to perfectly offset this on a daily basis. Bentonite is the “mop” that soaks up the rain getting into your house, but since you will be, for the most part, using the “same size mop,” or the same amount of bentonite, on a daily basis for a while, there will be days when the amount you take does not soak up all the rain, and you house gets wet. There will be days that there are more acids in your blood and bowel than the day before, and the amount of bentonite you take is not enough to eliminate all of them. And that is ok.

As you continue taking bentonite, visualize the holes in your roof getting stronger; visualize the large pile of accumulated acids in your body becoming smaller. In both cases, as time goes by, this house, with fewer holes in the roof, will get wet less often. Your body, with fewer stored acids, will less likely become overwhelmed with acids (because many of the acids in your bowel and blood in the first place came from this big pile of stored acids; as the pile gets smaller, so does your vulnerability to symptoms, weight, addictions, and disease.)

This program is much easier once your body is healthier, and your daily use of bentonite is making your body healthier.

That is the essence of this program, that one day “keeping your house dry” will be effortless. That one day, it will be effortless to look and feel great, avoid disease, and conquer your addictions. And using bentonite on a daily basis—regardless of the immediate benefits to your bowel, weight, or symptoms—will help get you to this beyond amazing place, one day.

Avoid Cleansing Diets!

Avoid Cleansing Diets (for now): An Explanation of What I Mean When I Use the Term "Cleanse"

In my practice, cleansing refers to the release of stored acids from your organs into your blood and bowel. This creates symptoms, weight gain, and bad blood tests when your bowel is too unhealthy to completely eliminate these acids.

The consumption of a larger amount of cleansing food in your diet is, by far, the number one cause of discomfort on this program—or failure to see quick improvements in your symptoms or weight. Failure is rarely due to the Bowel Strength or bentonite.

Foods that are cleansing yield glucose or other sugars when they are digested. This glucose stimulates the movement of acids from your organs into your blood. This is only good, and valuable, if these acids can be eliminated from your body once they become released. It will take some time before you are healthy enough to eliminate a lot of acids.

If you have started his program and are not looking or feeling better, check the list of cleansing foods below and make sure you have not added more into your diet (compared to the quantity you ate before you started this program.)

Eating a more cleansing diet is by far the number one cause of discomfort, poor stools , bad blood tests, and a lack of change in your weight or symptoms while you are healing your bowel and body!

Most/Very highly cleansing foods: fruit and fruit juices, sugar and sugar-containing foods like desserts and sodas

Highly cleansing foods: carbohydrates like bread, pasta, bagels, cereal, rice and other grains

Moderately cleansing foods: dairy products (as they yield milk sugar when digested), like yogurt (fruit-flavored are much more cleansing than plain yogurt), milk, cottage cheese, cheese, and beans, including soy/tofu

Non-cleansing foods: animal protein like chicken, beef, turkey and fish; green leafy vegetables (while the “dreaded” evil veggies like carrots and potatoes are slightly cleansing); fats like nuts, butter, and avocadoes

Note: alcohol, coffee, and cigarettes are not cleansing. They are highly acidic and damaging to your body and bowel, but in the short-term they often make you feel good, not bad (hence our addictions!). Likewise, over the long run they will make it much harder for you to eliminate acids and to look and feel good. Notice that many of the diets that ultra-thin celebrities consume contain animal protein, vegetables, alcohol and coffee (they are photographed with “Starbuck” cups all the time), because they have learned how to eat in a way to stop the movement of acids into their blood, helping them become thin (at a steep price later on, of course. And note how many of these celebrities “balloon up and gain large quantities of weight in a short period of time (think Janet Jackson), when they stop this horrible diet…)

Many cleansing foods are healthy for you, but until you are healthy, eating them will make you look and feel worse!

Cleanses do NOT Cleanse!

Just as sure as November follows, October, that every January you will hear commercials for weight loss, and that the sun will rise, you can count on numerous ads for “Spring Cleanses” at this time of year! Year, after year, after year, after year, you hear the same old false promises of a quick solution to your health and weight problems with this approach. And you buy into them, because, hey, who doesn’t want to believe that you can eliminate decade’s worth of toxins in only ten days, as these imply!

Cleansing does not heal you, or lead to permanent weight loss, symptom reduction, or illness elimination as this program does

Cleanses actually remove very little, if no, toxicity/acidity from your body. Rather, during them, there is “no rain hitting your roof”—you eat no acidic foods like coffee, alcohol or sugar, etc. Or, you ingest alkaline minerals and foods, like lemon juice, green veggie juice, or supplements like Milk Thistle, which buffer—but do not eliminate—the acids in your body, again, making you look and feel better.

When you look and feel better on these programs, you wrongly assume it means you eliminated a lot of toxins/acids from your body.

There are only four ways to eliminate acids from your body—breath, sweat, urine and poop! There is very little about these diets, and nothing about these supplements, that help you breathe, sweat, urinate, or poop out more toxins/acids.
Sometimes your bowels become more frequent during one of these programs and you wrongly believe—because this is what “they” wrongly believe--that this means you are eliminating a lot of acids/toxins from your body. When your bowels move daily but your stools are not firm and very well formed, it means very little acidity is exiting your body (if I accomplish one thing before I die, I hope to get everyone to understand this concept!)

To eliminate billions of stored acids/toxins from your body, and to be able to maintain this effortlessly for many years to come, heal your bowel and body as described in my book.

Top 3 Bowel Health Concepts

(An understanding of which will help you eliminate your symptoms, illness, weight struggles, and addictions.)

1. You inherited an unhealthy bowel bacterial environment. Thankfully, this can—and must—be changed!

…and as the generations go on, it keeps getting worse! As a woman, you “give” some of your good bacteria to your baby. If you had 50 trillion to begin with, you may pass on 25 trillion onto your child, and then when they have a child, they have even less to pass onto theirs, and so on and so on. They pass on 12 trillion, for example, and then their children only get 6 trillion—you get the picture? Pretty soon we will be extinct! You cannot live without a healthy bacterial environment. Once these levels get really low, you will not be able to reproduce anyway (nature’s way of protecting itself). Even modern medicine and infertility treatments can only do so much to force this to happen.

In other words, your age, or size, has absolutely nothing to do with how healthy your bowel is, or how long it will take to heal it. In fact, most of my teenage and younger clients have much less healthy bowels than their parents, and need more Bowel Strength or acidophilus to heal their bowel, not less! If you have kids, get them started on these products now. If you do not, the chance is extremely high that they will suffer from symptoms, disease, addictions, and weight struggles much earlier than you did. The statistics show this is already happening—cancer, obesity, headaches, diabetes, etc are occurring at the youngest ages in the recorded health history of mankind.


2. You should have 100,000,000,000,000 (100 trillion) good bacteria in your bowel. That is an extremely large number, and it will take some time to create this!

100 trillion seconds is 31,688 years. If you stacked 100 trillion $100 bills it would weigh 2,200 million pounds. This is an inconceivable number. You should be absolutely astonished, and extremely appreciative, that this can be rebuilt and created at all! So when I say that it will take several years to create this, understand why this is so.

And never, ever, ever, fall for anyone or any product that claims to be able to recreate 100 trillion bacteria in your bowel “overnight.” There are plenty of people out there trying to sell you this quick fix, and yet it is only they who will benefit, and profit, from your falling for it.

3. For 99% of you, 12 Bowel Strength/day will not cause symptoms, weight problems, or bowel problems for at least one year or longer after starting it.

So if you do experience symptoms or weight problems during this program, consider that there is a 99% chance that these are occurring because your bowel is unhealthy. While you are healing it, it is not healed yet. Just because you are fixing the holes on your roof does not mean your house will not get wet when it rains—it will. You have to spend some time and fix a lot of holes before your house remains dry in the face of extra rain. In other words, it will take some time before you can eat more salt, sugar, alcohol, get less sleep, endure more stress, etc before these do not affect you.

Or, these are occurring because you ignored the strong and repeated advice in my book about reducing your protein intake too quickly, especially animal proteins like chicken, turkey, fish, beef. etc.

Re-read Chapter 8 of “This Works, Crutches Don’t” for a better understanding of what is causing your symptoms or weight problems while you heal.

If you have been ill for more than a few years, you have struggled with your weight for many years, you have IBS, colitis, Chron’s, hemorrhoids, polyps, lactose or gluten allergies, a history of frequent but poorly formed stools, you eat a low carb diet and still don’t look or feel good—you have a very unhealthy bowel and will very likely be able to take 12 B.S./day for 2-3 years, easily, before it causes you problems! It does not mean that you have to take it for this long—you do not have to make your bowel extremely healthy to reap huge benefits from this program. You can “fix” it halfway and be thousands of miles healthier than on day one, but it does mean that you cannot blame it (the Bowel Strength) for causing your problems before then….

Constipation Remedies That Will Make You Look and Feel Worse!

When you are constipated, there is great temptation to increase the frequency of your elimination—with complete disregard of the form of your stools. Remember, when you have infrequent or hard stools, you are eliminating more fat-causing, disease-causing, symptom-causing, addiction-causing, and bad-blood-test causing acids from your body than when your elimination is frequent but your stools are too skinny, mushy, or loose.

As you will recall from the explanation in Chapter Six of “This Works, Crutches Don’t:,” frequent but poorly formed stools are caused by an excess of unformed acids in your bowel (which also means a lot of re-absorbed acids in your body!) And remember, when you are constipated, there are fewer unformed acids in your bowel, and fewer reabsorbed into your body (i.e. you look and feel better.)

When you eat prunes, prune juice, fruit juice, or any other food or beverage that stimulates more frequent elimination, this is occurring because these foods/beverages are cleansing—they cause more acids to move into your bowel, thereby increasing the irritation to it (it increases the number of unformed acids in your bowel—this is NOT your goal!!!). This increases the frequency of your elimination, but it also increases your weight, symptoms, addictions, etc.

When you overreact to constipation, it usually backfires on you. You usually think you will look and feel better when you react to this state, but when you use a cleansing food like fruit juice or prunes to accomplish this, you will look and feel worse.

On the other hand, laxatives like senna, cascara sagrada, and aloe simply cause your bowel to contract more intensely, and your elimination becomes more frequent as well—but because this is increased frequency is not caused by an increase in acids in your bowel, these remedies do not cause the symptoms, weight gain, etc that the ones described above do. At the same time, these remedies also do absolutely nothing to increase the elimination of weight-causing, symptom-causing, disease-causing, etc acids from your body. Finally, it is common for ones stools to become loose during the use of these products and one’s stomach to feel crampy, contributing to their lack of appeal (and by the way, if you do use one of these products and your stools become loose, this is not directly caused by the laxative, rather, it is confirmation that not enough acids were formed in your bowel, and that more bentonite—not less, as many of you are tempted to conclude! —will help eliminate your constipation problems).

If you are constipated, the best solution—the one that will help you look and feel better—is to change the amount of bentonite you are taking. Unlike the fruit which will make you look and feel worse, and unlike the laxatives like senna that will not make you look or feel worse, but do not help you eliminate more acids and so cannot make you look or feel better (aside from the relief of constipation)—bentonite increases the absorption of acids in your bowel, which improves the frequency of your elimination, while also helping you look and feel better at the same time!

Re-read pages 232-234 of my book, “This Works, Crutches Don’t,” for instructions on using bentonite correctly. When done so, you will seldom experience constipation and you will accelerate the elimination of acids from your body and the healing of it—leading to a permanently thin, symptom-free, addiction-free, long-living body and ideal blood test results!

Stop Freaking Out About Constipation!

When you are constipated---not eliminating daily, or going daily but with hard, small stools—you are eliminating more weight-causing, disease-causing, symptom-causing, and addiction-causing acids than when you go daily with stools that are (some or all of them) too skinny, loose, mushy, or flakey.

Un-formed acids in your bowel mean un-eliminated acids from your body. Un-eliminated acids lead to weight gain, symptoms, disease, and addictions.

Every day, your bowel automatically “squeezes” (an action called peristalsis), in an attempt to eliminate the waste stored within. If all of the acids are formed into a stool they will be eliminated when your bowel squeezes, and your stools will look perfect. You will also be eliminating all of the acids that lead to weight gain, disease, symptoms, and addictions.

When you eliminate every day but your stools are skinny, mushy, flakey or loose, very little of the acids in your bowel are eliminated. In this state, the reason you go every day is because a lot of unformed acids in your bowel irritate it, like a laxative This irritation causes your bowel to squeeze more aggressively in an attempt to eliminate this irritation (these excess unformed acids). Your body also sends some water into your bowel to try to dilute these acids, again protecting you. But at the same time, most of these acids have been reabsorbed into your body, leading to weight gain, disease, symptoms, and addictions.

Finally, when you are constipated, there are fewer unformed acids, which means your bowel is not irritated or freaked out about them and therefore, your bowel does not squeeze so aggressively, But the stools are also not large enough to eliminate easily when your bowel squeezes.

Formed acids in your bowel do not get reabsorbed; only the unformed acids do. So if you are constipated, you are not helping to eliminate more acids by forcing yourself to go, or using a laxative to go, either.

Time and time again, I see clients who go through this “constipated” state, and when they do, they are losing weight!, having less headaches and other aches and pains!, craving less sugar!, seeing better blood test results!, have more energy!, and on and on and on……(and just the other day, as I was explaining to a client why daily, not well-formed stools contribute to infertility, she had an “ah ha moment” as she stated that her sister, who has two children and has not had infertility problems, is constipated—while she, struggling with infertility, has frequent, loosely formed stools!!)

If you previously had daily but not 100% well-formed stools with every elimination and you have hit this constipation stage too, rejoice. You are on your way! Perfect elimination is extremely difficult to attain, but this state is certainly a big step in the right direction (unless your constipation is caused by surgery, travel, medications, etc…)

How To Manipulate, and Correctly Interpret, Your Blood Tests

Blood tests are a horrible way to measure the health of your bowel and body, and as such, they are a very dangerous tool for assessing your health, as well as your progress with this program! (In fact, I keep threatening that in the future I will not work with clients who insist on having these done!)

Blood tests are a measurement of your body’s reaction to un-eliminated acids.* They reflect the amount of acids in your blood, but they do NOT reflect the strength of your bowel, or the amount of acids stored in your organs—leading to disease and death. They measure the “amount of trash in the middle of your kitchen.” They do not measure how many holes are in your trashcan or how much trash is stored in your kitchen cabinets or closets.

Your blood tests could be misleadingly good if your bowel is super unhealthy and you eat a high protein, low cleansing diet that keeps the acids in your organs. Your kitchen could look very misleadingly clean if you have tons of trash stuffed into your kitchen cabinets and closets. On the other hand, if six months into this program you have 25% fewer “holes in your trashcan”—i.e. a stronger bowel bacterial environment, and you have 25% fewer acids (or trash) in your organs (or kitchen cabinets), but you take too much bentonite, or two to three days before the test you eat a lot of fruit or less protein than before you started this program, your body will dump more acids into your blood then you can eliminate and your blood test will look bad—even though YOU ARE HEALTHIER!!! If you clean a big pile of trash out of your closets and dump it into your kitchen—more trash than you have space in your stronger trashcan for--your kitchen will be a mess. For a doctor, or you, to then conclude that you, or your house, is worse or less healthy than before is entirely wrong.

Your blood test has absolutely ZERO correlation to the health of your bowel or body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until your bowel and body are super healthy, your blood tests will be bad if you eat a cleansing diet or take the wrong amount of bentonite.

If you do these lousy tests and they are worse than before, you are not less healthy than before!! In 95% of the cases this means that you have reduced your protein intake too quickly (you guys keep doing this against my very urgent advice that you not do this!), or that you are taking too much bentonite and moving old acids into your blood faster than you can eliminate them (ie your stools are worse in form than they were on day one, a situation you are told to correct by me, or in Chapter 8 of my book.)

How much of the Bowel Strength or acidophilus you tolerate is a key indication of the health of your bowel bacterial environment, and pH tests are a key indication of the health of your organs. These “tests” give you an accurate, and safe!, measurement of your health.

You have a much greater chance of healing your bowel and body if you choose not to have these tests done.

To manipulate your blood test levels—if you still insist on having these horrible tests done—take 3,000 mg of calcium citrate the day before, and day of, your test, eat a high protein, low carbohydrate diet the day before your test, and take the right amount of bentonite that results in perfectly well-formed stools, and NEVER get these tests done if your stools have been loose, soft, or more than 1x/day and NOT 100% perfectly formed!

Finally, when a variable on a blood test comes out too high, it means you need MORE of that nutrient, etc., not less! For example, if your TSH levels are too high, your doctor will prescribe MORE thyroid hormones, not less. Why they can’t figure this out with other variables is beyond me, but clearly they haven’t, so you must take this into your hands. Time and again, if a client’s iron levels, or calcium levels, etc come back elevated on a blood test, these are brought back into normal range with larger amounts of iron and calcium, not less!! If you run into this situation and need my knowledge and support to correct your levels, let me know.

Likewise, if your vitamin B-12 levels come back too high, it does not mean you are taking too much, it means you have too little. Increasing your B-12 levels substantially will improve these levels. If your progesterone levels are too high, you are not ingesting too much progesterone! If you take the correct amount of an increased amount of progesterone (and NOT the synthetic kind your doctor will sell you, but the natural kind mentioned in my book), these levels will normalize. I have seen this happen time and time again!!

If your blood test is bad it does not mean that you do not have a healthier bowel or body. On the other hand, if your blood test is better than before, it does not mean that you are all of a sudden healthy, either!

* This is true in 95% of the cases. A few variables, like PSA levels, are not reactions to un-eliminated acids, but rather, are the result of an unhealthy bowel bacterial environment—which you are improving with this program (ie, eventually these will come back normal!)

To Ensure Success, Use Crutches While You Heal!

Taking an aggressive amount of Bowel Strength (or probiotics, like acidophilus) is a necessity for achieving a healthy, symptom-free, addiction-free, long-living and thin body. But your bowel is home to 100 trillion bacteria, and recreating this beyond-enormous environment takes time. Very few of you will succeed in accomplishing this feat if you do not use crutches along the way.

Those of you who do or have used the crutches I recommend in Chapter 10 of “This Works, Crutches Don’t” have found a significant and immediate reduction in headaches, aches and pains, sugar cravings, bad Pap smears, and PMS. You have seen your skin look better right away, your energy increase, your stools dramatically improve, and your weight go down. You have begun sleeping through the night. You have gotten pregnant immediately, felt great during your pregnancy, and given birth to healthy babies. You have seen your blood tests improve, and even just the other day, adding the right crutch to the program kept a 16-year-old girl from having to be admitted to Children’s Hospital.

So I am concerned when I hear that some of you are not using these crutches and relying only on the bowel Strength or probiotics. The chance you will have the patience to wait years to see and feel the benefits of this are extremely low. I wonder if you read my book and did not read Chapter 10, or if you did, perhaps you did not read it very carefully? The necessity of using crutches while you heal is clearly emphasized in this chapter. If you are not using calcium, bentonite (especially bentonite!), progesterone cream and vitamin B-12, you need to start these immediately (per the instructions in Chapter 10).

Eat "good" fat to lose weight, feel better, and to improve your blood tests

Fat Intake, Weight Loss, and Symptom Reduction (as well as improved blood tests)

Excess, un-eliminated acids in you blood (left there because your bowel is not yet healthy enough to eliminate them), cause your body to retain water and fat (your weight goes up), trigger reactions from your body to protect against these (causing symptoms) and trigger reactions from your organs (that cause elevated cholesterol and other blood tests variables, like TSH and liver enzyme levels—to possibly increase.) Because ‘tis the time of year that weight is especially on everyone’s mind, and you will be hearing a zillion ads and commercials marketing the “will always fail crutch approach to weight loss!”—I will state this boldly in regard to your weight:

Fat does not make you fat. Excess acids in your blood do!

A lack of exercise, too many carbs, and a lack of willpower are not the cause of excess weight—excess acids are!

Hence, until your bowel is healthier and better able to eliminate acids from your blood that cause weight, symptoms, and bad blood tests, it is helpful to minimize the acids in your blood in other ways.

The foods you eat have a profound effect on the acids that are present in your blood.

There are several “ways” to reduce the acids in your blood with your diet. One, reduce the acidic foods that you eat. This reduces the “new” acids that enter into your blood. Two, eat foods that are not cleansing—that do not cause the old acids in your cells/organs to be discarded into your blood.

Healthy fats satisfy these two requirements.

Healthy fats include olive oil, cold/expeller-pressed oils, nuts and seeds and their butters, avocadoes, and butter! These foods are non-acidic, or very low in acidity. This reduces the new acids entering into your blood, which reduces symptoms, weight gain, and bad blood tests.

These fats are also not cleansing, They do not cause old acids to dump into your blood from your cells/organs. For now, this is desirable, and it means fewer symptoms, fewer weight problems, and better blood tests.

Additionally, by eating more of these fats/foods, you are very likely to eat less acidic, cleansing foods that trigger symptoms, weight gain, and bad blood tests.

So eat more of these healthy fats, and your weight will go down, your symptoms will reduce, and your blood tests will look better.

How much should you eat? Eat a lot more than you think. A long-term, healthy diet is comprised of about 25% fat—that is quite a bit! It may mean that you eat 2 tablespoons of butter, ½ avocado and 2 tablespoons of olive oil a day—or more.

Remember, you need to re-program your brain to rethink the cause of weight gain, symptoms, elevated cholesterol, etc. Acids in your blood that have not been eliminated by your bowel cause these (and these can be reduced by the foods you eat. Healthy fats fit into the category of foods that reduce the presence of these weight producing, symptom-producing, cholesterol-producing acids!).

Diet Tips For Your Success (sourdough bread products)

Foods To Help Heal Your Bowel and Body

Sourdough bread is easier to digest, and less acidic, than white, wheat, and even whole wheat bread. These qualities of a food make it “healthy” for you. When foods are easy to digest, they require less of your body’s energy to break them into utilizable components. This means that there is more energy for healing activities, like eliminating acids from your body. If you were eating all day long, you would not have time to work and earn money to pay your bills. Your body also does not “survive” well when it is busy digesting food all day long!

The easy digestibility of sourdough also makes it a better choice for people who do not digest gluten (wheat) very well. If this is you may find that you do not experience symptoms after eating sourdough as you do if you eat wheat (although in cases of a very unhealthy bowel, even sourdough will not be tolerated, so this is something you will need to be watchful of).

Being relatively low in acidity, it also means that when you eat sourdough, very little new “trash” enters your body. With less new trash, your body can focus on getting rid of the old trash that causes weight gain, organ weakness, symptoms, cravings, and illness.

The end result of a low acid, easy to digest diet is that there are fewer acids in your blood, and fewer acids in your blood means less symptoms, less weight, and better blood tests.

Put another way, weight gain is not caused by excess calories, fat, or a lack of exercise—it is caused by excess, un-eliminated acids in your blood.

Excess, un-eliminated acids in your blood cause many of your symptoms.

Blood tests reflect the un-eliminated acids in your blood, and they will be worse—TSH, cholesterol, liver enzyme levels, etc—the more un-eliminated acids there are in your blood.

Until your bowel is healthier and better able to eliminate acids from your blood, a low-acid, easy to digest diet will help minimize their presence there, and therefore will minimize your symptoms, weight problems, and bad blood tests. Used correctly, sourdough can help you achieve these results.

Therefore, let me expand upon and clarify the recommendations in my book for eating sourdough products. One, there is “good” sourdough and “bad” sourdough (just as there is good salt and bad salt, good fats and bad fats, etc.) The good sourdough is made from a sourdough starter. The bad sourdough is made from yeast. Check the ingredients label on the bread bag or ask the bread shop where you purchase this if a starter or yeast is used. Avoid sourdough made with yeast. For the most part, sourdough products in the grocery store or at restaurants are made form yeast and are not very healthy for you. Sourdough products made with a starter are more readily available at health food stores and bread shops.

Secondly, even though sourdough made with a starter is healthy for you, it is cleansing because it is high in carbohydrates. This means that it sends acids from you cells into your blood and bowel, where it will trigger symptoms, weight gain, and bad blood tests if you cannot eliminate these acids. Therefore, if you start this program and avoid bread and carbs, do not immediately introduce sourdough into your diet. On the other hand, if, when you start this program, you are eating other breads, pastas, bagels, and other carbohydrates, you will look and feel better if you replace as many of these with sourdough (or rice too, of course!). So if you usually eat a sandwich on wheat bread and can make one with a good sourdough, you will look and feel better doing so. If you usually have a bagel for breakfast, replace it with some good sourdough toast, and you will look and feel better.

If you are lucky, you may be able to find other wonderful, good sourdough products in your town and at your health food store, like sourdough pizza crusts, bagels, pancakes, or crackers. And if you are really lucky, you live in San Francisco, sourdough heaven!.

P.S.--I even had a client tell me that when she visits Mexico, most of the breads are made with sourdough, as is true in Europe and other parts of the world where a lot of bread is eaten, and people are not suffering with the same weight and health problems we are.

P.P.S.—just today, I read about a baker in France who became obsessed with baking the best bread in the world. His recipe? Sourdough bread. He sold $10 million worth of it last year! If you are ever in France, get some, and tell me what you thought about it! (it is called Poilane bread).
